FINNED & UNFINNED ELEMENTS
Finned and unfinned elements are generally used for air heating applications. The most common application is ducted heating.
These elements are manufactured from steel, nickel-plated and incoloy tubular elements with fins attached to the surface of the tubular element. Then formed in a U, W or Multi-Form shape and placed in a duct to provide air flow over the elements.
The fins are added to increase the surface area of the element, making it more efficiently heat up the air as it passes over the element. This also makes sure that the heat is being taken away from the element and preventing it from overheating and failing. Most duct inserts or sections have flow switches and over temperature switches mounted with the elements to turn the elements off if the air-flow drops too much or if the elements get too hot.
CAUTION: It is important to note the minimum air velocity stated with each table. Each set of elements is manufactured at specific watts densities to suit minimum air flows.
